The City of Abbotsford???s Planning & Development Services department is looking for an experienced Environmental Coordinator to join their dynamic team. Reporting to the Director, Development Planning, you will support Planning and Development Services, Engineering, Parks and other City staff with addressing fisheries, wildlife, and related environmental matters arising from urban infrastructure and development projects.

In this unique and challenging role, you will advise on the impacts of urban development, construction projects, agriculture, resource extraction, and other human activity on the ecological systems within the City, making recommendations to both protect and enhance fish and wildlife habitat, and minimizing ecological disruption.

As a subject matter expert you will share your expertise and knowledge of all relevant legislation, regulation, principles and best practices with stakeholders, and be able to communicate seamlessly, adapting your communication style for those who may be unfamiliar with the topic. Through your strong interpersonal, critical thinking and organizational skills you will ensure related Council???s bylaws, policies and priorities are addressed through the development approvals process. Your strong communication skills will be evident through your presentation style demonstrating a customer service orientation. You will have excellent research and analysis skills, and be able to develop written material including technical reports, standards, bylaws and policies. Your knowledge of fish habitat, species and ecosystems at risk, invasive species, erosion and sediment control, and storm water management will prove invaluable for success in this position.

To be considered for this position you must have:

??? A degree in biology, environmental science, geography, or environmental engineering.
??? Minimum of 2 years work experience in an environmental field with direct involvement in urban infrastructure and development projects.
??? Specialized knowledge of municipal operations.
??? A professional Biologist, Environmental or Engineering Designation from a recognized Institution or Board.
??? Valid BC Drivers Licence

This position is unionized, C.U.P.E Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $37.50 to $44.11 per hour (2015 rates).
