The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Utilities Operations Superintendent to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Utilities Operations Department.

Reporting to the Utilities Operations Manager, you will be responsible in this exempt position for working independently under the direction of the Utility Operations Manager, supervising and managing staff required to complete specialist assignments, including interpreting the labour contract, identifying skill set deficits, employee performance, development and training; assisting with the recruitment, training, performance and discipline of staff, and the maintenance of safe work practices; and adjudicating grievances at Stage I. You will also work independently under the guidance of the Utility Operations Manager performing operational planning, design, estimating, inspection, and maintenance functions for water, drainage and sanitary systems and related facilities. Functions will include but are not limited to letter, memo and report writing; review of studies; drafting of specifications, terms of reference, safe work procedures, maintenance procedures, maintenance programs and contract documents; liaison with other agencies and the public; and field work including inspections. Contract administration and related functions are required to be performed.

Your education will include BCIT or equivalent Civil Engineering Technologist Diploma and a minimum of 7 years of directly related experience obtained in a municipal engineering environment of a Municipal Government Engineering Department or a Municipal Consulting Engineering Company, or equivalent. Working knowledge of engineering principles, terminology, materials, equipment, practices and techniques as applied to the various areas of the Utilities operating group; of applicable Municipal, Provincial and Federal regulations, policies and bylaws; occupational hazards and required safety regulations; of labour relations contracts, administration, recruitment and selection processes, as well as, supervisory experience in a Union environment; and knowledge of computer applications in the Utilities operating group.
