The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Telecommunications Operator I to join our team of professionals in the Protective Services - RCMP Division; Telecommunications Section.

Reporting to the Telecommunications Supervisor - RCMP, you will be responsible in this unionized position for receiving a variety of emergency police calls and general inquiries by telephone; obtaining necessary additional information and relaying calls to appropriate departments for action.

Your education will include completion of grade 12 or equivalent standing attained through practical experience and related training. Sound experience in general office or clerical work, preferably in the law enforcement or the public safety communications area, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required..

You will have sound knowledge of department functions, procedures, rules and regulations relative to the work performed; working knowledge of law enforcement objectives, appropriate statutes and by-laws; working knowledge of the streets and major commercial, industrial and residential areas within the District; as well as knowledge of technical language, clerical and recordkeeping methods and procedures used in the department. You will also have the ability to process a large volume of inquiries and to exercise sound judgement to effect quick and accurate decisions regarding departmental responsibility and action as well as have the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and to maintain harmonious relationships with officials and other staff. You will have the ability to memorize systems and codes used in the department, be able to type a minimum of 35 wpm, and have skill in conducting telephone interviews.

Enhanced Reliability Status required. (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $24.81 - $29.16 per hour (5 steps, 2018 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are one week of days, and one week of evenings 7:30am ??? 3:30pm; 3:30pm ??? 11:30pm; non-standard hours and/or non-standard work week.
