Job Description: The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) is comprised of six member municipalities and eight Electoral Areas, each containing numerous unique communities, cultures and landscapes. The FVRD covers roughly 13,900 square kilometers, equal to more than twice the size of Prince Edward Island.

The Parks Department is responsible for operations and maintenance of 10 regional parks, 3 regional trails, and a number of community parks and trails in the Fraser Valley which sees over 1,000,000 visitations annually.
Duties: We have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated, independent individual to fill the time-duration position of Parks Assistant. The term of this position will be from approximately April 2018 to April 2019. The hours of work are 7.5 hours per day; 5 days a week, between dawn and dusk, any combination of days from Monday through Sunday.

The Parks Assistant will perform a variety of duties including routine maintenance of the grounds and buildings (janitorial duties, minor carpentry/construction, and painting); grooming and building trails within the parks; do safety inspections and enforce rules for safety and security; provide information to the public, which may include coordinating/conducting interpretive walk/tours.
Educational Requirements: • Completion of grade 12, plus a Technical Diploma in Natural Resources Management or a related field, OR enrolment in related courses and experience;
Skill Requirements: • Experience in Microsoft Office;
• Experience with general carpentry, and power tools is preferred;
• Excellent communication, presentation and public relations skills, with the ability to deal with conflict situations effectively;
• Must be possession of a valid Driver’s Licence.

There will be on the job training for specific knowledge and skills requirements.
Salary: The start rate for this Union position is $16.52 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of benefits. Upon successful completion of the required probationary period the wage will increase to $19.44 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of benefits.
