Job Description: Employees in this position perform highly skilled electrical work at the journeyman level involving the design, installation, inspection, maintenance, alteration, repair or replacement of a variety of electrical systems.
Duties: Plans, schedules and participates in the installation, inspection, maintenance, alteration, repair or replacement of electrical equipment, systems, instrumentation, and controls, including pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic components, in municipal buildings and pumping stations, reservoirs, and lift stations and responds to emergency calls related thereto.

Participates in the installation, replacement, repair and maintenance of street lights, traffic lights and traffic control devices.

Designs or approves for building and installation electrical and instrumentation systems, wiring, and component drawings; updates electrical schematics and maintains accurate as builts; prepares estimates and recommends the contracting out of systems design, installation, and maintenance.

Responds to emergency calls and independently resolves problems or emergency situations related to the work.

As required, plans, schedules and oversees electrical contractors assisting with preventative maintenance work or on major installations and repair work; inspects and approves work during progress and on completion.

As required, plans, schedules and oversees other employees assigned to duties associated with electrical work.

Ensures an inventory of standard electrical supply is in stock.

In conjunction with the Purchasing department, obtains prices, quotations, and sources for new or replacement items; orders and authorizes electrical supply purchases within budgetary guidelines.

Liaises and coordinates electrical installation, inspection, and maintenance work for District equipment with representatives of electrical suppliers, public and private power and cable utility companies; discusses problems and consults with electrical contractors, consulting engineers, electrical inspectors, members of the public and other operational areas.

Operates ladder hoist (bucket) and pickup trucks, hand power tools, compressor tools and accessories, electrical testing, and metering equipment.

Assists supervisor with annual budgeting for electrical activities.

Ensures that their performance meets a high standard of quality, efficiency and customer service, and is performed in compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and appropriate risk management practices.

Prepares, checks, files and maintains a variety of records, reports, schedules, sketches and plans.
Responds to a variety of customer inquiries, requests and complaints.

In consultation with supervisor, develops and implements new policies, procedures, and work methodology.

Operates a variety of construction, maintenance and office equipment.

As required, attends various meetings.

Performs related duties as required.
Educational Requirements: High school graduation or equivalent; supplemented by related technical courses related to electrical work in a municipal environment.

Completion of a recognized electrical trades apprenticeship and a minimum of three (3) years??? journeyman experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Certificate of Qualification ??? Red Seal (Electrician)

Field Safety Representative (FSR) ??? Certificate of Qualification ??? Class A (unrestricted)

Ability to obtain and maintain RCMP enhanced reliability clearance

Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver???s License
Skill Requirements: Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, equipment and tools used in electrical maintenance, installation, repair and inspection work.

Considerable knowledge of the hazards and required safety precautions involved in electrical work.

Considerable knowledge of the relevant safety regulations, policies and procedures and risk management practices and ability to introduce and implement new methods as developed or regulated.

Ability to provide clear direction to contractors and other employees assigned to duties associated with electrical work.

Ability to prepare and estimate job costs and determine the resources and labour required to perform assigned tasks to meet required timelines and complete projects within budget limit.

Ability to make responsible decisions under pressure and in response to emergency situations.

Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of reports, work records, project estimates and budget estimates.

Ability to read and explain plans and blueprints, and to work from written or oral instructions.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts and to communicate tactfully and effectively, both verbally and in writing; be courteous and tactful in a variety of demanding and difficult situations.

Skilled in the use of a variety of relevant tools, equipment and current computer software applications related to the work.
Salary: $38.75 per hour plus a comprehensive benefit package including the Municipal Pension Plan
