The City of Abbotsford’s Legislative Services Division is currently seeking two self-motivated and experienced Bylaw Enforcement Officers to join their dynamic team. These opportunities are full time on a temporary basis until return of incumbents, approximately six months.
These temporary positions are 35 hours per week and require full availability. Shifts are 8.75 hours, four days per week.
As the successful applicant you will be responsible for inspection and regulatory work related to the enforcement of City bylaws and for effectively and efficiently patrolling the community for adherence to regulations. This position involves extensive contact with the public and close liaison with regulatory departments within the City and outside agencies.
Strong empathy, awareness of and sensitivity to community issues such as diversity, homelessness and mental health issues will help you to be successful in this role. You will have a demonstrated ability to problem solve, investigate complaints and enforce applicable bylaws and regulations with tact, sound judgement and exceptional communication/conflict resolution expertise.
As our ideal candidate you will have:
• completion of the Bylaws Compliance, Enforcement and Investigative Skills Courses;
• a minimum of three years’ experience in inspection, investigation or law enforcement or;
• an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence;
• ability to work shift work including evening and weekends as required; and
• post graduate education in a related field is considered an asset.
This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $30.58 per hour to $35.96 per hour plus 12% in lieu of health benefits, vacation and statutory holidays.
