Job Description: The Workplace Health Specialist will represent the City in assisting employees who are off work or at risk of being off work for health reasons. In this role, you will assess any barriers to a successful and timely return-to-work and engage with stakeholders to implement strategies to address those identified barriers and support return to work or an appropriate alternative plan.
Duties: The Workplace Health Specialist obtains and manages confidential employee information; develops and implements return to work plans; determines appropriate medical and disability accommodations; discusses complex medical information with physicians and other health care providers and assists employees and their supervisors with attendance management programs. This will be done while demonstrating care and compassion building successful relationships and developing effective recovery, return to work, accommodation and attendance support /stay at work programs.

As a member of the City???s Human Resources team, you will make a positive, tangible difference in the recovery and wellbeing of employees returning to work or remaining at work. You will work collaboratively with employees, the management team, unions, health care professionals, insurance providers and others to evaluate medical information and design and implement recovery and return-to-work plans as well as educate and provide guidance to: the management team, supervisors, employee groups and unions, on disability and case management process and expectations.

The role will manage a varied and complex caseload while providing return to work/remain at work programs and assessments. You will make timely, independent decisions by applying reasoning of medical principles, law and policy to a set of complicated and challenging facts that address attendance, medical management, workplace wellness, employee assistance program and disability issues.
Educational Requirements: The ideal candidate has a Bachelor???s Degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years??? comprehensive experience in Disability Case Management or combination of experience and specialized education. A registered professional status within the disability management field would be an asset. You have strong interpersonal skills along with superior assessment and problem solving abilities.
