The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time (from approximately July 29, 2019 to approximately July 30, 2021) Building Energy Manager to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division; Permit, Licence and Inspection Services Department.

Reporting to the Assistant Chief Inspector, you will be responsible in this exempt position for researching and advancing building energy related policies that would enable deep and lasting reductions in community energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. You will advance building related goals and objectives of the Township of Langley???s Sustainability Charter and Community Energy and Emissions Plan and implement building energy related policies in the Township of Langley???s Official Community Plan. You will implement building energy related guidelines in various neighbourhood plans through the development permit process and be responsible for further development of the Township???s Step Code framework and other green building programs and policies. . The position will liaise with municipal staff and provide related technical support to the Corporate Energy Manager and the Community Energy Manager, and work with external government agencies and partners/stakeholders. The successful applicant will be a dynamic and skilled professional, able to manage the foundation for a significant reduction in energy use community-wide.

Your education will include a post-secondary degree/diploma in Building Engineering, Resource Management, Planning, or Environmental Science (graduate degree preferred and/or supplemented by professional designation) or a Master???s designation in a related field plus a minimum of 5 years of experience working as an energy and/or sustainability specialist, or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. You will have knowledge of current methodologies and design/construction practices in architecture, engineering, building envelope, and energy modeling; sound understanding of current building code requirements (BC Energy Step Code), inclusive of EnerGuide, ASHRAE 90.1 and the National Energy Code for Buildings (NECB) as well as knowledge of relevant provincial and/or federal legislation You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to demonstrate excellence in leadership, problem-solving, analysis and implementation skills. You will have substantive knowledge in the field of energy and carbon management related to building energy performance and experience with local government processes /bylaws and an understanding of common commercial and residential building energy benchmarking or third party energy building rating systems.

Eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geo-Scientists of BC Registered Technologist, Registered Planner, Certified Energy Manager, and/or membership in the Building Officials Association of BC is considered an asset. The following additional accreditations are also desirable: Energy efficiency training such as CIET Energy Management Training Course; LEED professional accreditation; Project Management Professional (PMP); Change Management or Multi-Objective Decision Making; Architect AIBC.

A valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside is required.
