We are seeking a strategic leader to join our progressive and passionate team as Director, Recreation and Culture. Reporting directly to the General Manager, Parks, Recreation and Culture, the Director is responsible for providing overall leadership to the community recreation and culture division. This role leads the planning and delivery of services to the community and provides strategic advice, counsel and guidance on critical issues that have community impacts. This position plays a significant role in overseeing and managing a large workforce of creative and dedicated unionized and exempt employees.

The City is in the process of developing a Culture Strategic Plan and implementing a progressive Master Plan. As the Director you will lead this process to create a culturally vibrant and beautiful City that will position us as a leader in Canada. As the Director, you are a seasoned leader, with the ability to motivate, mentor, coach and influence a diverse team to create a high performance work environment. You thrive managing many different priorities concurrently, and possess the ability to move projects forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. Your strong planning, communication and interpersonal skills allow you to build credible and trusted relationships at all levels throughout the organization and the community.

As the Director, you will have:
??? a Master???s or Undergraduate Degree in Recreation Administration, Business Administration, or other related field;
??? 10 years of progressive related experience, with a minimum of five (5) years in a senior leadership role;
??? thorough knowledge of the legislation, regulations, and policies the impact the delivery of municipal recreation and culture services; and
??? considerable knowledge/expertise in leisure and human behaviour, community development, cultural drivers and partnership development.
