The Environmental Services Division of the Engineering and Regional Utilities Department provides environmental leadership and develops integrated sustainability strategies and policies that guide the growth of the City in accordance with Council???s Strategic Plan and the City???s updated Official Community Plan. The Division helps to guide community programs, policies and infrastructure investments in the City and achieve Council???s vision for the City ??????to be the Hub of the Fraser Valley.???

We are seeking a key member of our Environmental Services Division leadership team for the position of Solid Waste Operations Manager. Reporting to the Director, Environmental Services, the Manager provides leadership and insight in overseeing the daily operations of the City???s Solid Waste collection team and contractors. As the Manager, the scope of your role includes managing all aspects of the City???s collection service, managing collection contracts, and overseeing contracts related to the waste, recycling and composting services. You will act as point person for public relations and customer notifications, as well as monitor budgets, carry out annual budget review and prepare budget recommendations.

In this role, you direct and assist staff by providing technological knowledge and feedback on operations and procedures, and review and determine efficient collection methods dependent on locations. You will be responsible for promoting and fostering a health and safety culture and playing an essential role in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Program. You will work in collaboration with Engineering staff to implement pilot projects or technological changes and new collection programs throughout the City. You will plan and coordinate route changes, boundaries and mapping, as well as collate, analyze and benchmark data for cost comparison, mapping and route structuring. Your responsibilities include defining contract specifications; preparing procurement documents; participating in the evaluation of procurements and recommending contractors; monitoring contracts and recommending payment of invoices; and ensuring contractor compliance and addressing matters in the field. You will prepare reports with respect to waste management issues, environmental impacts, program activities and accomplishments.

You have the ability to motivate, mentor, coach and lead a diverse team of operational and maintenance staff and contracted service providers. You see your work through an environmental lens, and are always seeking ways to maintain sustainable solid waste management practices and ensure the City leads by example. You have strong communication and interpersonal skills, allowing you to build credible and trusted relationships with your team, with contractors, and throughout the organization, and provide expert advice, support and guidance to City residents.

As the Manager, you will have:
??? Diploma in Technology, Operations Management, or other related discipline;
??? Certified Technologist or Technician with ASTTBC;
??? Minimum of five years of progressive related experience, with a minimum of three years in a leadership role.
