The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a regular full-time Planner I to join our team of professionals in the Community Development Division, Development Planning Department. Our fast-paced and collaborative environment provides an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience in a wide range of development related topics and customer engagement.

Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, in this unionized position you will be responsible for assuming a broad range of duties in the area of development planning including processing zoning, subdivision, development permits, ALR and other permits and applications. Important components of this role include the interpretation and application of bylaws, policies and guidelines, collaborating on long range planning initiatives, and data collection and analysis. This position offers the opportunity to provide direct customer service, advice and interpretation, and to research and write complex reports. As a key member of the Development Planning team, you will work collaboratively and in consultation with landscape architects, engineering technologists and professional planners.

The successful candidate will possess a university degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a post graduate degree in Community or Regional Planning or other related area, supplemented by some professional planning experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience within a municipal government setting is preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and will be energetic, enthusiastic, well organized and able to communicate effectively with the public and a variety of stakeholders. Extensive computer familiarity is required with proficiency in visual presentations, word processing and spreadsheets. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of BC or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $43.04 - $50.85 (5 steps, 2019 rates), plus benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.
