The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to 22 temporary full-time Operations Maintenance Workers (from approx. January 6, 2020 to approx. December 24, 2020) to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Parks Operations Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, in this unionized position you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a variety of large industrial gas and/or electrical tools and heavy equipment such as tractors with attachments, self-propelled grass mowers and concrete mixers. You will assist in the installation, maintenance and repair of irrigation and drainage systems and operate a dump, flat, panel or service truck of between 5,100 and 24,000 pounds GVW. The position will maintain and repair parks and cemeteries within the Township, including turf management, horticulture, arboriculture, conservation areas, trails, hard surfaces, playgrounds, and park structures. The successful candidate will assist in the construction and maintenance of wooden and concrete structures, and assist with the supervision of a small group of workers performing unskilled and semi-skilled manual work while ensuring safe work practices.

Your education will include completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and considerable related experience in construction and/or maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The successful applicants will be able to exercise considerable independent judgment, initiative and have sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to be involved in the performance of heavy, semi-skilled manual outdoor work in all weather conditions. It is necessary to have considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and equipment applicable to several functional areas of Parks construction and maintenance work. A valid BC Class 3 Driver???s Licence with Air Brake Endorsement or Code 20 ??? Heavy Trailer Endorsement will be considered an asset.

This position is defined by the Township of Langley as a position of trust (Child Safety). The successful candidate(s) will be required to have a criminal record check as a condition of employment (Note - Not required as part of the application process, however will be required upon consideration for employment).

The CUPE rate of pay is $30.33 per hour (2020 rates) plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are eight hours per day, 40 hours per week.
