||The incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Geographic Information Systems section of the Corporate Services Department through reliable performance in the operation and efficient use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and hardware, observing and complying with municipal policies, and ensuring the safety and security of confidential material pertaining to the Department's operation.
||The incumbent in this class will be responsible for the operation, efficient use and maintenance of GIS systems, data and hardware within the Information Technology Department (GIS section), and consulting with other Departments and officials to determine and respond to the GIS needs of the organization. The incumbent will respond to requests for GIS services, develop maps, and input/maintain tabular and spatial data in a timely and efficient manner. The incumbent will consolidate and integrate data provided by outside sources, and liaise with internal staff to respond to GIS service requests. The incumbent will operate CAD and GIS software and associated hardware (plotters, scanners, etc.), and input engineering and property cadastre data from construction drawings into the city’s enterprise GIS database.
The incumbent will be required to perform other related duties as assigned. Assignments and responsibilities are performed under general supervision and performance is subject to review, inspection and evaluation by the GIS Supervisor.
||- Must be a graduate of a recognized Institute of Technology of a two-year Geographic Information Systems Technology Program, or possess comparable skills and experience including undergraduate coursework that includes a focus of study in Geographic Information Systems
||Must be knowledgeable in the use of GIS software, CAD software, and associated applications;
Must be proficient in managing digital drawing files, and tabular and spatial datasets; and demonstrate an aptitude for ensuring data accuracy and completeness;
Experience interacting with a relational database, and writing structured queries to retrieve information;
Strong familiarity with reading survey plans, and working knowledge of drafting practices;
Familiar with coordinate geometry, map projections, and coordinate systems;
Must understand best practices for spatial data file interoperability, and CAD to GIS conversion;
Familiar with field surveying (including GPS) concepts and techniques;
Must be in possession of a valid BC Driver's Licence;
Able to work within the multifaceted municipal setting;
Able to work with minimum supervision and to exercise judgment in the performance of duties in accordance with established priorities;
Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of staff.
