The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for a temporary full-time Energy Manager (approx. September 21, 2020 to September 21, 2022) to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division; Sustainability Department. Reporting to the Manager, Climate Action, in this exempt position you will be responsible for implementing energy related objectives of the Township???s sustainability Charter, Official Community Plan and Climate Action Strategy.

The successful candidate will research and advance energy and sustainability related policies that will enable deep, lasting reductions in community energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. This position will liaise with FortisBC and ensure applicable agreements and Climate Action Partners program requirements are met. You will investigate options for satisfying the Township of Langley???s commitment to the Climate Action Charter and adopted greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. Working across all departments, you may develop community related policy, initiatives and programs that focus on energy conservation and greenhouse gas emissions reductions. You may also make recommendations for corporate energy efficiency programs and infrastructure upgrades, including detailed cost-benefit analysis and develop budgets for capital improvement projects. The successful candidate may also investigate opportunities to improve corporate fleet fuel efficiency through driver training, alternative fuels and new vehicle technologies.

Your education will include a Bachelor???s degree in sustainability, resource management, or public policy, a minimum of three years of experience working in the energy and/or sustainability field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A graduate degree in a related business field supplemented by any of the following professional designations is considered an asset:

??? Registered Professional Engineer or Registered Engineering Technologist or Registered Planner or Certified Energy Manager designation (through the Association of Energy Engineers)
??? Energy efficiency training such as CIET Energy Management Training Course
??? Registered Planner
??? LEED professional accreditation (LEED AP)
??? Project Management Professional (PMP)
??? Change Management
??? Multi-Objective Decision Making

The successful candidate will have knowledge of current methodologies and design/construction practices in the field of energy and carbon management. Experience with local government, institutional processes and relevant legislation and bylaws is needed. Comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems including broad knowledge of building automation systems is essential. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be able to demonstrate excellence in leadership, problem-solving, analysis and implementation skills. You will have substantive knowledge in the field of energy and carbon management related to building energy performance.

A valid BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver???s license or equivalent driver???s license for where you reside is required.
