Job Description: Are you a part-time, full-time or co-op student? If so, the District of Mission has a challenging and rewarding temporary job opportunity for a post-secondary transportation engineering student to join our team! This position is well-suited for students who have a minimum of one year in a relevant discipline such as civil engineering and have an interest in learning more about municipal transportation engineering and traffic operations. If you are a current engineering student looking to gain experience and knowledge in a local government environment, this may be the opportunity for you!
Duties: Reporting to the Traffic & Transportation Engineering Technologist, you will have the opportunity to prepare collision and crosswalk warrant analysis reports, investigate and respond to common traffic complaints and report on monthly complaint statistics, collect Geographic Information System (GIS) coordinates of transportation infrastructure information to be entered into the District???s GIS, establish education and maintenance practices for active transportation networks, develop templates and FAQ???s, prepare web content, and create project summary sheets for capital projects.
Educational Requirements: As the ideal candidate, you will be currently enrolled in a post-secondary engineering education program, be proficient in Word and Excel, have working knowledge of GIS principles, methods and software and have previous experience in roads, traffic and transportation engineering. You will also possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver???s License (a Class 7 is acceptable). GIS experience would be an asset.
Skill Requirements: In order to be eligible to apply for this opportunity, you must be registered as a student, either full-time or part-time, and intend to return to school the next academic term. You can also be registered in a recognized cooperative education program (co-op) in a participating post-secondary institution and employed within their field of study.
Salary: The hourly rate for this CUPE Student Employee position is $20.84 per hour plus 12.4% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays, other paid leaves, fringe benefits and premiums. You will work a nine-day fortnight (extended hours for nine days with one day off every two weeks).
Additional Information: This job opportunity will commence at the beginning of September 2021 (or possibly August) until the end of December 2021.
