The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to 40 temporary full-time Labourers (from approx. February 28, 2022 to December 23, 2022) to join our team of professionals in the Engineering Division, Roads Operations Department. Reporting to the Roads Operations Manager, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of manual work requiring physical effort and agility in the operations of semi-skilled and unskilled construction/maintenance tasks. This position requires sufficient stamina, strength and agility to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities:
??? Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the operation, maintenance and construction of roads operations and municipal infrastructure
??? Act as a pad-person for backhoes and a grade-person in construction of sidewalks, trenches and roads operations
??? Break blacktop and concrete surfaces using pneumatic hammer and compressor accessories
??? Operate motorized compacting machines in backfilling and grading work and perform more complex work as required
??? Carry out landscaping, planting and vegetation duties and install traffic signs/road markings on municipal streets
??? Drive a vehicle to transport materials and tools to job sites
??? Perform related work as required

Qualifications:
??? Completion of Grade 12 with some experience in construction and maintenance or an equivalent combination of training and experience
??? Sound knowledge of the methods, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in general construction and maintenance work Skill in the use of a variety of tools used in general maintenance and construction work
??? Sound knowledge of the functions of roads operations and of the established procedures governing the work
??? Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and simple written instructions
??? Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to permit the performance of heavy manual work outdoors in all weather
??? Valid BC Class 3 Driver???s License (full-privilege) with Air brake Endorsement is considered an asset

The CUPE rate of pay for this position is $29.13 per hour (2020 rates), plus 13% in lieu of benefits. The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00am ??? 4:30pm.
