Reporting to the Manager, Inspections you will be responsible for the onsite building reviews and compliance monitoring for building permits on complex buildings, and as needed, conducting reviews, processing and issuance of building permit applications Strong communication skills are essential as you work closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to answer inquiries and provide technical guidance. Your ability to coach and mentor junior staff will be invaluable as you help coordinate, assign work to and assist less experienced staff. Thorough knowledge of the: BC Building Code, BC Fire Code, Canadian Farm Building Code, applicable NFPA standards, the Building Bylaw and other applicable City bylaws, policies and regulations, including Workers??? Compensation Legislation along with your demonstrated ability to conduct plan and building reviews will guide your success in this position. Duties: In this challenging role, you will utilize your specialized knowledge while focusing on more complex and problematic buildings to ensure compliance with approved plans, bylaws, acts, codes standards and regulations. You will utilize your analytical skills to provide interpretations and applicability of code requirements, product and alternative solution evaluations, construction methods and other City bylaws and then communicate these decisions to customers, staff and the public. Educational Requirements: In order to be considered for this position you must have: ??? Professional designation as a Registered Building Official, Professional Engineer, or Registered Architect; ??? Building Level 3 Qualification with Building Officials??? Association of BC (BOABC); ??? Four (4) years of experience working in building construction or design or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; ??? Valid Class 5 BC Driver???s Licence. ??? Interprovincial Qualification and Certification will be recognized for candidates.
