Job Description: The City of Abbotsford’s Operations Department is seeking a self-motivated, hard-working individual to join their team as a Utility Person in the Sewers Division. If you are not yet fully qualified for this position, you may be eligible to participate in a full-time skill development program designed to prepare them to become a Utility Person (Sewers).
Duties: A Utility Person-Sewers is responsible for establishing and carrying out repair, maintenance and construction duties in the sewers field and will be required to operate moderately large vehicles under varying traffic conditions.

The successful candidate, if entering the Utility Person (Sewers) Development Program, will be required to complete the entire program to the final level; a maximum of 12 months. During the course of the Utility Person-Sewers - Development Program, candidates will not be eligible to apply to other positions in the City of Abbotsford. They must complete the Utility Person-Sewers - Development Program, as well as 12 months in the end level (Utility Person-Sewers) position.
Educational Requirements: To be eligible to take advantage of this exciting opportunity, candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications:
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Eligible for Environmental Operator’s Certification Program OIT Certification by having:
o Three (3) months experience (minimum 500 hours) at a Class 1 or higher facility/system
or
o Completion of 90 hours (9.0 CEUs) in an approved basic operator training course.
• Ability to obtain Class 3 B.C. Driver’s Licence by completion of development program.

Once fully Qualified you will have:
• Grade 12 plus post-secondary courses in sewers.
• One year experience in sewers.
• Class 5 Driver’s Licence (ability to obtain Class 3 if operationally required)
• Environmental Operators Certification, Level 1 (Wastewater Collection)
Please note: Fully qualified candidates will be considered before those eligible for the development program.
Salary: This position is unionized, CUPE Local 774, and the hourly rate of pay is from $29.68- $34.92.
